Happy International Women’s Day

At Farther Foundation, young women submit more than 60% of the applications for scholarship that we receive, and thus far, account for more than 65% of the scholarships we have awarded. Not to disparage the fine group of young men we have supported over the years, but our young women comprise an especially smart, eager and adventurous group.Erika 1

Our female scholarship recipients have participated on programs that have taken them to Argentina, Costa Rica, Tanzania, Thailand, Japan, Italy, France and beyond.

Erika spent six weeks in Vietnam last summer. Here is some of what she shared with us”

This summer I had the privilege of going to Vietnam for a month to do community service. This trip is the most incredible thing I have ever experienced. Some of the highlights of my trip were building a house for an impoverished family of four, going kayaking, and closing ceremony in the village.  On the last day of our stay in the village, we had an early morning ceremony where we handed the family a new key for their new house.  It was an emotional moment for my group and I because it was now time to say goodbye to our new friends who whom we meet three weeks prior. Just seeing the mother with tears in her eyes brought tears to mine because it showed me that I was much more appreciated than I originally thought.

Happy International Women’s Day to all of our intrepid young scholarship recipients.

Farther Foundation was formed to help students break free from the constraints of poverty and gain experiences that propel them toward their highest aspirations. We provide opportunities for eager and deserving students to travel worldwide and interact with individuals who have diverse backgrounds and experiences. They participate in programs where they are immersed in new cultures and experiences, learn and develop skills, provide community service, cultivate leadership potential and attain personal growth.
