In 2012, Farther Foundation helped Eric attend Columbia University for a four week pre-college summer program. Just the other day, we received a note from Eric:
“I just wanted to take the time to thank you once more on giving me the opportunity to attend Columbia University the summer after my sophomore year. As high school is coming to an end, I am going through one of the hardest choices in my life: which college to attend. However, I have been admitted to Colgate University, and they personally wrote on my decision letter that my experience at Columbia seemed remarkable. I know that without the help from the Further Foundation my college essay would not have had the experience at Columbia.”
The programs that Farther Foundation enables students to experience make a real impact in their lives. They grow in confidence, their world view expands, and their aspirations and expectations are heightened. Also, importantly, as Eric’s experience shows, educational enrichment programs can have a big positive impact on a college application.
Eric confirmed with us that he has indeed chosen to attend Colgate University (he will also attend Columbia again as well as part of the 3-2 engineering program he will begin this fall). He told us that he will be the first in his family to attend college, and the opportunity to get a degree from an Ivy League school is “off the chart”.
We wish Eric the best of luck and know he will continue to dedicate himself to his education and take full advantage of all the opportunities he has earned. We are looking forward to hearing from more of our Farther Foundation alumni now that college acceptance deadlines are at hand.
Farther Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization providing scholarships to low-income students to inspire them to reach their highest aspirations through educational travel experiences.
