Making African American History Every Day

February is African American History Month. For many Farther Foundation students it is a time to reflect back on the proud history of their culture, but an even better time to look forward to the impact they will have in their communities and in the world. We started with students who were ready to learn and ended with students who are ready to lead. We are pleased to share some of their stories with you this month.

Chelsea used her Farther Foundation scholarship to attend a rigorous pre-college summer academic program at Vanderbilt University.

“I realized that I have what it takes to go to a school like that {Vanderbilt} but I have to push myself. This also goes for the teens in my community because if they had the opportunities that I have they would also be capable. Ever since I got back I have been trying to convince my younger cousins to do a summer college or a foreign exchange. I know that if they experience something similar to what I did they will strive for more.”

Chelsea went on to attend Colgate University. She graduated in 2014 and has begun a promising career in marketing.

Farther Foundation and the students we serve depend on the tax deductible donations from people like you to make these life changing experiences possible. Visit our website to make a donation online.
