We are the Roses

There was a commercial that aired quite a bit during the NCAA basketball tournament for Powerade. It featured Chicago Bull’s basketball star, Derek Rose and some stark footage from the streets in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago. But the most powerful and affecting aspect of the commercial was the use of a section of lyrics written by Tupac Shakur.

“You wouldn’t ask why the rose that grew from the concrete had damaged petals. On the contrary, we would all celebrate its tenacity. We would all love it’s will to reach the sun. Well, we are the roses – this is the concrete – and these are my damaged petals. Don’t ask me why…ask me how!”

These are the students we serve at Farther Foundation. They have all the intelligence and determination they need to succeed, all they lack are opportunities. Farther Foundation seeks these students out and provides them with the opportunity to participate in unique and life-changing educational travel programs. We are reviewing scholarship applications from more than 50 of these “Roses” right now. Support Farther Foundation and be a part of the change.
